Counselling Supervision
I am a qualified Counselling Supervisor, having completed the Professional Development Award (PDA) in Counselling Supervision at SCQF Level 11, jointly awarded by SQA and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Counselling supervision provides a confidential and reflective space to explore your client work, develop your practice, consider ethical and professional responsibilities, and reflect on the impact of the work on you as a practitioner. BACP recognises supervision as an essential part of maintaining safe, effective and ethical practice.
My approach to supervision is collaborative, supportive and reflective, drawing on the three key functions of supervision:
-
Formative – Learning and Development: developing counselling skills, knowledge and professional practice, while encouraging reflection and ongoing learning.
-
Normative – Ethical and Professional Practice: considering ethical responsibilities, professional standards, boundaries, risk, safeguarding and accountability.
-
Restorative – Support and Wellbeing: providing space to reflect on the emotional impact of counselling work, explore challenges and support your wellbeing and resilience as a practitioner.
These three areas work together, with the balance adapting to your individual needs, experience and client work.
I aim to create a supervision relationship where you feel able to bring your whole practice to supervision, including uncertainty, challenges and difficult moments, as well as recognising your strengths and successes.
I also bring my experience and training as a CBT counsellor, practitioner of Person-Centred Creative Art Therapy and my BACP accreditation to my supervision practice. I have extensive experience working with both adults and young people across a range of settings, including private practice, secondary schools, the NHS, community services and Criminal Justice.
This allows me to draw on a broad range of therapeutic knowledge and practical experience when supporting supervisees to reflect on their client work, consider different perspectives and develop their own therapeutic practice. I can offer an integrative approach to supervision, while respecting and supporting the supervisee's own therapeutic modality, experience and way of working.
